Tonya Elliott

Marriage & Family Therapist PhD LMFT

Founder, Clinical Director, Cultural Educator | Soul Garden Wellness

Being a therapist is not just a job—it's a spiritual calling.

I am Dr. Tonya Elliott, PhD, LMFT, a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural healer, educator, and social justice advocate. I am of Tsa La Gi (Cherokee), Pawnee, Scottish, English, and French descent, and I identify culturally as Cherokee. My connection to my heritage runs deep, and I frequently travel to Oklahoma to participate in traditional ceremonies such as the stomp dance. I am also a drum keeper for Otsigeya, a Native Women’s mother drum group, and have been an active supporter of the Annual Native Women’s Drum Summit Committee since 2014.

With over 25 years of clinical experience and 15 years as a professor of counseling, I have dedicated my life’s work to helping individuals heal from intergenerational trauma, reclaim their personal power, and reconnect with their authentic selves. My approach to therapy is holistic, integrative, and deeply rooted in cultural wisdom—an approach that treats the whole person mind, body, and spirit.

A Spirit-Centered Approach to Healing

At Soul Garden Wellness, we recognize that mental illness is often intertwined with spiritual disconnection and ancestral wounds. True healing requires more than just talking through your struggles—it demands a holistic and culturally responsive approach that honors all aspects of your being.

Through my work, I integrate:

  • Indigenous Healing Practices (ceremony, ritual, storytelling, drumming)

  • Epigenetic Repatterning Therapy (rewiring generational trauma at the subconscious level)

  • Somatic Therapy & Vagus Nerve Resets (addressing trauma stored in the body)

  • Quantum Healing & Energy Medicine (aligning with the body's natural vibrational healing)

  • Earth-Based Therapies (crystals, essential oils, meditation, breathwork)

We welcome all spiritual and cultural perspectives and honor all races, genders, gender identities/expressions, and sexual orientations. Inclusivity is not just a value—it is the foundation of our healing practice.

My Commitment to Cultural Healing & Social Justice

For more than two decades, I have worked extensively with Native American women and families to support cultural restoration and spiritual healing. I believe that decolonizing therapeutic approaches is essential for true, lasting healing, and I am committed to advocating for cultural competency, social justice, and community-building in every aspect of my work.

I am honored to educate and train future therapists, speak at conferences, and consult on culturally responsive therapeutic models. My work extends beyond the therapy room and into the heart of the healing movement for Indigenous communities and beyond.
